Color Works...

Please excuse my absence to the blog, but I have been working on getting my portfolio in order, so that I can grow up and get a job.......

Here are a few photos from one of the workshops we put on for the Mamas this summer.....topic: COLOR!

We hand colored all of these color wheels for the women, because we do not have a color printer.

They were excited to learn and had a lot of questions.

Putting different color combinations together.

They look thrilled......

peace. love. batik.

Today I thought I would share with you a few photos of the batik process.

Aunty Gina has a large backyard where she does her batik work. The pot of water will be used for removing the wax at the end of the process.

Mixing the perfect color.

This is what can happen if the wax gets too hot....

The de-waxing process to remove all wax from the cotton.

Wash and rinse. (This is also how laundry is done, for all of you who thought we had a washing machine)

Stamps galore!

Eli and Emma have the best view for batiking.

My pattern stamped in wax on the white cotton, pre dye bath.

A Day Trip to Domama

Remember the worst day trip of my life? I was told that I was going on a short walk to a rock shrine, followed by canoeing and a waterfall.....false.

Here we are sitting inside the rock shrine. I am surprised to see that I am the only one smiling in this photo, as I was the one hating every moment of the walk.

Looking outside.

Three massive rocks. Not worth the 17K walk.

We passed through this remote village on our way to the rocks.

Of course we found some kids who wanted their photos taken.

The three minute canoe ride.

Walking.....

Still walking.....

A Night In Larabanga

On our way back from visiting Mole, we decided that we would stay the night in a small town that was located just south of the park....it added quite a bit on entertainment to our already eventful trip.

We were greeted by the local children, all wanting us to take their picture.

We had the option of sleeping on the roof, using these branches as steps up.

Talk about a room with a view.

Ah yes, living in the lap of luxury.

I liked this window.

This is the oldest mosque in west Africa, built in the 13th century.

We went at a bit of an awkward time, because it was the evening call to prayer, but we were welcomed and drank tea with one of the men who came to welcome us.

Did you ever wonder was Larabanga looks like at 4:00 in the morning? Well....this is it.

On our way back to Cape we stopped at the largest market in Ghana. How would you like to do your shopping here?

MOLE MOLE MOLE!

This post is going to be in two parts. The one today will show the park, and the one tomorrow will show the small town where we spent the night....

As soon as we pulled into the park we saw this elephant hanging out having a little snack.

But when we were taking his photo he became a little camera shy...

A few of us enjoying our lunch, before the monkey jumped onto the table and took Jordans lunch.

TOMS on safari!

I was forced to wear these boots (over my shoes) because there were apparently snakes that could kill me. I didn't see any of these so called snakes roaming around, but it made for a good photo shoot next to a pile of bones.

Elephant hunting....

Revenge of the hungry monkeys. This guy came a little too close for comfort.

Our ride home.

Enjoying the view from the back of the truck.
